Why is change like putting on a pair of jeans you just washed?
Do you have a favorite pair jeans that when you wear them you just feel totally awesome? Like, you look in the mirror, and you just love the way you look? You like these jeans so much that you never wash them. But, you know you can’t wear those jeans forever because they are eventually going to need washing. You know the smell of dirty denim… It’s totally gross!
Well, that’s kind of what it’s like when you start something new. You’re so comfortable in the way things are at that moment that you’re OK with doing the same thing the same way each day, but in the back of your mind you can see that something’s gotta change. Just Like when you look at your jeans that you’ve worn over and over again, you start to see that there’s a mustard stain here and there from the lunch you ate in a hurry. Or, the bottom part is dirty from the time you sat on the ground to rest…and they’ve become baggy and saggy because you have worn them too much.
If you keep wearing them, it’s just going to get progressively worse… the stains are just gonna keep piling up.
Life is like that too. The thing that you thought was so awesome and made you feel good, look good and do good will require a change eventually. Life’s daily struggles will let you know that something’s got to give.
You need to change them in order to keep them fresh. We know that when you take them out of the wash and put them in the dryer or hang them on the line that the next time you try to put them on it’s going to be a struggle. You may have to lay down on the floor but it will be so worth it because when you walk past that mirror and see yourself in your fresh pair of jeans, you will know that it was all worth it!
